Montgomery was born in Greenwich, Connecticut on March 9, 1936. Montgomery graduated from Williams College〔(June 17, 1962) (Constance Cappel Is Married To Raymond Montgomery Jr. ), ''The New York Times''〕 and attended graduate school at Yale University and New York University.
